  • Getting Started

A vanity may be one of most stylish ways to fight chaos in the bathroom and in your life. You can enjoy the beauty of fine furniture and the simplicity of a routine simplified by smart storage. Vanities can be highly customized, from the exterior details to the lineup of interior accessories, to bring you added style and functionality. The following guide will help you discover the vanity best suited to you and your home.

  • Measure Your Space

As with any purchase and installation of a permanent fixture, you should have a solid understanding of the amount of space you have to work with and any odd features or restriction within that space.

  • How Much Space Do You Have?

How Much Space Do You Have?

    1. Are you replacing your vanity and working with the same exact footprint?

    2. Is there an existing medicine cabinet that limits the height of the sink and faucet?

    3. Are there any doors that swing into the styling area which could be blocked?

    4. Is the space plumbed for one or two sinks? If one, is it centered in the space or off to one side?

  • How To Measure

    1. If this is a simple replacement, measure the width (side to side), depth (front to back) and height (top to bottom) of your current vanity and choose one with the same measurements.

    2. Measure the full length of the space with which you have to work. Your design may take the form of one or two vanities with or without a bridge or drawer between, so the full measure is key.

    3. Measure the distance of space available from the wall forward to ensure standard vanity depths will fit easily. Remember to leave room for the swing of the bathroom and shower door. You will also want to be able to leave vanity drawers and doors open without being blocked. And don’t forget to include enough space for individuals to move about comfortably in front of the vanity.

    4. Height should be measure from the floor to the top of the vanity or from the base of the vanity to the top if you’re replacing or planning on a wall-mounted vanity. Think about the height in terms of comfort as well–wall-mounted vanities can be installed at varying heights.

  • Storage Requirements

If you’re like the majority of people, your bathroom space may have a few more items out in plain view than you would ultimately like. A vanity helps solve this.

    Usage, Storage And Organization Needs

    • First take stock of all items that you would like to be able to store in your vanity. The list may include everything from small makeup items to electric toothbrushes and curling irons to towels and extra toilet tissue.

    • Who will be using the vanity? If a number of people use the same vanity, would a drawer for each make sense?

    • Do you have electrical items that need to plugged in or items that need to be put away while still hot?

  • Installation Needs

    Installation Needs

    • Beyond the measurements needed for installation, think about things like electricity. If you plan to mount a strip within your vanity to charge various items, you will need access to electrical wiring nearby.

    • Consider the number and location of sinks to ensure all elements line up appropriately,

    • Don’t forget about the height of the vanity and where the counter and sink will be positioned. If standard heights don’t quite work for you, consider a wall-mount vanity that can be installed at a custom height.
